In a further setback to the government's efforts to stem the tide of illegal immigrants, the Chinese ambassador Wen He Dung said that Chinese firms will not bid on the massive construction project on the Mexico US border. The administration was hopeful that one or more Chinese firms would bid on a project that US firms including Haliburden had passed over.
Clearly A Setback
"This is clearly a setback" said presidential spokeperson Tawny Snow at the morning press briefing. "They insisted on construction of a railroad and planting of eucalyptus trees. Obviously we can't grow eucalyptus trees in the desert," added Snow. "Apparently they remember the last time they were involved in a big US construction project and wanted the same working conditions." Eucalyptus trees were planted in California by the Southern Pacific Railroad in an attempt to have a cheap source of railroad ties. "Now, you can buy them at Wall Mart," said Snow.
Republicans Outraged at President
As the problems mount, Republican legislators became increasingly impatient with the President. "Hell, I got Wall Mart to cover the whole State of Alabama and these buffoons can't get a dinky, little wall built?" asked Governor Haille Barbiere of Mississippi. "What kind of non-sense is this? He should just send the National Guard in." Barbiere has been an outspoken critic of the administration and is a supporter of the use of the military at the border.
Confused Republicans Ponder Future of Project
Representative David Dryer of California was more terse. "He's got Bob Villa building a wall? What happened to Halliburden? And now he wants the Chinese? What's next, Mexican day laborers?" asked Dryer. "There must be some way of getting one of our defense contractors to build this thing. For God's sake, they went into Iraq and all we had to do was give them obscene payments. This a wall on our border. We should be able to work something out to get them interested," added Dryer.
Halliburden Demanded Offshore Drilling Rights
Officials at Halliburden said that negotiations broke down over their demand for new offshore drilling leases in the Santa Monica bay. Republican negotiators had pressed for the granting of the leases but the Californian Democratic congressional caucus balked. "We're not giving those leases away to Halliburden. We're saving those for one of our donors," said Representative Bose.
Meanwhile adminstration sources said that planning is underway for the use of troops along the border. However, Presidential spokesperson Snow flatly denied those rumors.
In other news, Mexican mothers are reportedly planning a march north for Mexican Mothers Day. According to sources close to the march, the idea is to flood hospitals along the border with pregant women tying up the American medical system. The march called "millón de marzos embarazados de la madre" will start in the Mexican state of Whoa Haca and end in Yuma, Arizona.| Copyright Paradocs Productions 2007. All Rights Reserved. |
